How to find your PS5 IP address
Your PS5 shows its IP address in the network settings. It takes about 20 seconds.
PS5
- From the home screen, open Settings (the gear, top right).
- Go to Network → Connection Status.
- Choose View Connection Status. You’ll see the IPv4 address, subnet mask, default gateway (your router), primary and secondary DNS, the MAC address and the NAT type.
Choosing Test Internet Connection on the same screen also shows download and upload speed. For a second opinion from a PC or phone on the same network, use the FernTool speed test.
PS4
- Open Settings → Network.
- Choose View Connection Status.
Give the PS5 a fixed IP
To forward ports or set up a DMZ, the console’s address must stay the same. The cleanest way is a DHCP reservation on your router (find the router via your router’s IP address), linking the PS5’s MAC address to one IP. You can also set it manually on the PS5 under Settings → Network → Settings → Set Up Internet Connection, then press Options on your network and choose Advanced Settings, but a reservation avoids address clashes.
Private IP vs public IP on a console
The address the console shows is its private IP (usually 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x), given out by your router. Online games and other players see your public IP, which is shared by every device on your Wi‑Fi. To see that one, open FernTool on any phone or PC on the same network. More on the difference: public vs private IP.
NAT type is Strict or Moderate?
A strict NAT usually means incoming connections can’t reach the console. Common causes: UPnP is switched off on the router, there are two routers in a row (“double NAT”), or your ISP uses CGNAT. If the WAN IP on your router doesn’t match the IP on FernTool’s homepage, you are probably behind CGNAT and port forwarding won’t work until the ISP gives you a public IP. See why port forwarding isn’t working.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the IP address on a PS5?
Settings → Network → Connection Status → View Connection Status. It lists the IPv4 address, gateway, DNS, MAC address and NAT type.
Is the PS5 IP address the same as my public IP?
No. The PS5 shows its private IP on your home network. Your public IP is shared by all your devices and is shown on ferntool.com.
How do I fix NAT Type 3 on PS5?
Enable UPnP on your router, avoid double NAT, or forward the PlayStation ports to a reserved IP. If your ISP uses CGNAT, ask it for a public IP.
