Mbps to MB/s converter (internet speed)
1 Megabits/s (Mbps) = 0.125 Megabytes/s (MB/s)
How to convert Mbps to MB/s
Internet speeds are sold in megabits per second (Mbps, small b), but downloads and Steam show megabytes per second (MB/s, big B). A byte is 8 bits, so divide Mbps by 8: a 100 Mbps fibre line tops out at 12.5 MB/s, and a 50 GB game takes about 67 minutes. In practice expect 5–10% less because of protocol overhead and Wi‑Fi.

Frequently asked questions
How many MB/s is 100 Mbps?
12.5 MB/s. Divide megabits by 8 to get megabytes.
Why is my download slower than my internet package?
Packages are sold in megabits; downloads show megabytes. 50 Mbps ≈ 6.25 MB/s at best. Wi‑Fi, server limits and other devices reduce it further.
What is the difference between Mb and MB?
Mb is megabit, MB is megabyte. 1 MB = 8 Mb.
